New Zealander fugitive Phillip John Smith AKA Phillip Traynor, in Brazil arrested & deported; had been on 72-hour release from prison when he fled to South America using a recently obtained passport; had been serving a life sentence for the murder of a man whose son he had sexually abused : whitetourists

In his medical practice, he was active in serving the needs of deaf persons using American sign language, and he was a physician advisor for local emergency medical technicians. When he was a medical resident, he dreamed of volunteering in an African country. Before returning to his own practice, Philip climbed Mount Kenya and Mount Kilimanjaro.

He paid for his equipment and fees with his hard-earned money including paper routes, yard work, painting neighbors’ houses, working at Rathgebs on the Avenue and the Shell Station at the corner of Harding and Pacific Avenue. After marrying Julie Wager in 1958 they both agreed he should continue his education. Her killer left clues - DNA even - but after 23 years police are still no closer to finding him. The twin brothers were only 84 days old when they died, within hours of each other, after being violently assaulted.

An inquest into Lynott's death was held at Birmingham Coroner's Court in January 2003. It was also said that, despite her connection with Smith, police and four pathologists had failed to establish that Lynott had been murdered. Smith's trial began at Leicester Crown Court on 3 July 2001, where he pleaded not guilty to the three murder charges. The case was prosecuted by Tim Raggatt, QC, and Smith was defended by Rachel Brand, QC. On the opening day of the trial, Raggatt told the Court there was "powerful and compelling" scientific evidence linking Smith to the killings. Following a trial in March 2022 Joyce - who had previous convictions for assaulting her partner - was found guilty of murdering Berry and in May she was sentenced to life in prison. His work was a desire to care for others and a calling deeply rooted in his Christian faith.

Three days later the on-call forensic scene examiner was called to Droitwich by West Mercia Police where the body of Rosemary Corcoran had been found in a secluded lane off the A38. "A team of forensic scientists from different specialities pulled together every strand of forensic evidence to create Phillip John Smith a kind of 'spider's web' and in the centre of it all - linked to each one of the murdered women - was Philip Smith. Scientists analysed an overwhelming amount of forensic evidence and the results linked Smith to each of the three dead women - Jodie Hyde, Rosemary Corcoran and Carol Jordan.

Prosecuting, Mr Tim Raggatt QC told the court that all three murders were carried out by Mr Smith. A New Zealand murderer and child sex offender has won a legal battle that will allow him to wear his toupee in prison so he can boost his confidence. Because Lynott had worked alongside Smith at the Rainbow, West Midlands Police wished to re-examine the cause of her death. Detectives also investigated the death of a woman who had been a colleague of Smith at the Rainbow.
